Why are Mini Sessions Less Expensive?

A lot of photographers offer mini sessions and I am no exception. I usually offer at least one mini session each year, if not more. I often tie mine in with a favorite charity as a fundraiser, so my clients benefit, and so does my favorite charity.

Many clients wonder if they should do a mini session or a custom session. Here are some things to consider:

Mini Sessions with your favorite photographer still produce beautiful images. You are still getting the time and talent of your favorite photographer, and the images will reflect that. Just because a it’s a mini session doesn’t mean the photographer will produce a lesser image!

Time and location are decided for you. This is probably one of the main reasons that mini sessions are less expensive. The photographer usually choses his/her favorite location as the setting for their mini sessions. There are a lot of benefits to this, for both the photographer, and for you as the client. The photographer knows that location inside and out, she knows where the light is the best and at exactly what time of day. The photographer also chooses the time of day, usually early morning or late evening, because the lighting at that time is the most flattering and beautiful to work with.

You get to test drive the photographer. If you are working with a photographer you don’t already know, the mini session is a great way to determine if you are a good fit. You can get to know their personality and style, and see the quality of products and service they provide.

Custom Sessions are exactly that, CUSTOM. You and the photographer choose a location that works with your style, decor, personality and taste. You choose the day and time that works with your schedules, and the artwork choices are tailored to your specifications. If you aren’t sure you are ready to invest in a Custom Session, a mini session may be perfect for you!
