Texture is the theme for this week’s Beautiful Beasties 52 Week Photography Challenge!
I actually chose the theme this week 🙂 The first thing I always look for when placing my subject is light – but then I look around to see if there are interesting textures which might add to the photo. Usually I look for tall grasses, trees, bushes, sand – but sometimes other elements such as rock walls or old buildings can be great for adding the texture element. One of my favorite things about Connecticut, or New England in general, is the rock walls that are everywhere! They are not so common in Texas, and I love photographing them! I took Tucker out to this location because of the great rock wall, but he would have none of it. So I had to improvise. I hope you like what I came up with. Be sure to find the link below to follow the blog ring all the way around until you get back here to me!
Near the rock wall Tucker refused to get onto is a great historical building. It is the Henry Whitfield Home in Guilford:
This is a more common photo for me, finding a spot where the light hits the tall grasses and highlights their texture.
I love the way snow looks when it’s been shaped a little by the wind. I obviously need to work on learning how to photograph it! 😉
And finally, Tucker in the sand, he was sampling the texture of that shell and found it to be to his liking!
Next on the blog ring is Colorado pet photographer, StinkDog Photos. Click through to see what texture she has to show you 🙂 See you next week!

All of your shots are gorgeous. Tucker is so beautiful. I love his black paws against the white snow. Looks great!
