52 on Friday – Our town

This week’s challenge was for us to get out and about photographing our town.  My town is Guilford, CT and I have to say I really like it.  That is saying a lot for this warm weather loving Texan!  Guilford Green is a really beautiful green surrounded by locally owned small businesses.  Its very quaint and charming.  People gather there for events, carols and tree lighting at Christmas, and daily to walk their dogs.  I had hoped I could capture the green and how gorgeous it is, but gloomy weather and a sick child got in the way.  The next best thing, Grass Island.

One of the first spots we visited when I came here was Grass Island.  The little red building you can see behind the dog is kind of a mystery, at least to me and Google.  I don’t know why its there or if it ever had a purpose.  It’s very popular with local artists who come to paint or draw it.

The dog in the foreground is our foster, Rocky Boy, who is available for adoption through Labs4Rescue.

  1. That’s a lovely spot to photograph, and Rocky is a very beautiful boy, I hope he get’s adopted soon.

  2. Growing up in Guilford the story we heard was its a summer cottage who’s first owner was Colonel Samuel Hill, in 1773, followed by three generations of descendants, and ending with theMonroe family who gave the house and land to the town in the 60s.
